Bernard Grover

Bernard Grover is an award-winning writer, editor, producer, director, and communications professional whose career spans more than five decades across theatre, film, television, corporate communications, publishing, and live entertainment.

He began working in theatre at the age of twelve and went on to build a career that has crossed creative, technical, managerial, and executive disciplines. That breadth has become one of the defining characteristics of his work: an ability to understand both the idea and the machinery required to turn it into a finished product.

Over the years, Bernard has written and edited corporate reports, technical documentation, scripts, articles, promotional materials, training programmes, and long-form creative work. He has produced and directed film, television, theatre, corporate media, and live events; managed multidisciplinary teams and multimillion-dollar budgets; and overseen projects from initial concept through design, production, commissioning, operation, and final delivery.

His corporate communications experience has covered industries including energy, mining, medicine, finance, offshore construction, law, and institutional development. His work includes annual reports, sustainability reporting, compliance documentation, technical publications, translation, substantive editing, and publication management. Recent assignments have included work for organisations such as MIND ID, the ASEAN Centre for Energy, and MedcoEnergi, with an emphasis on accuracy, clarity, consistency, and effective communication for complex stakeholder audiences.

Bernard’s background in medical communications includes extensive work with Methodist Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he was involved in scripting, production, filming, and editing for educational, promotional, and institutional media. His technical and corporate work has consistently drawn on the same principle that guides his creative work: complicated information is most useful when it is made clear, coherent, and accessible.

After relocating to Indonesia, Bernard moved increasingly into executive management and large-scale venue development.

At Ciputra Artpreneur in Jakarta, he served in senior theatre and operations roles during the development, commissioning, opening, and operation of the venue. His responsibilities included theatre systems, production infrastructure, operating procedures, staffing, technical standards, and the practical requirements of presenting major international productions.

During that period, he played a management role in bringing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast to Jakarta, the first Broadway touring musical to be presented in Indonesia. The production marked an important milestone both for the venue and for Indonesia’s developing international theatrical market.

He later became General Manager of JIExpo Theatre, a 2,500-seat international-standard venue within the Jakarta International Expo complex. There he oversaw commissioning, start-up, technical systems, operating procedures, staffing, capital requirements, and theatre operations. Among the venue’s landmark early engagements was Yo-Yo Ma’s first concert in Indonesia, for which Bernard was directly involved in theatre preparation and operations.

Together, the Ciputra Artpreneur and JIExpo assignments reflect a recurring theme in Bernard’s career: building the systems behind creative work. Successful productions depend not only on artistic vision but on infrastructure, budgets, logistics, technology, safety, personnel, and disciplined execution. His experience has frequently placed him at the point where those disciplines meet.

Alongside his corporate and executive work, Bernard has maintained an extensive creative practice.

Through Radio Far Side, he has published essays, commentary, satire, interviews, fiction, and other original material reaching readers around the world. His creative writing includes novels, scripts, blogs, short-form narrative, and long-form projects spanning mystery, satire, historical fiction, dark comedy, and speculative storytelling.

Theatrix Entertainment serves as the production arm of that creative work, encompassing theatre, film, television, live entertainment, and original media development. Cabaret Indonique extends that work into live performance, combining music, comedy, dance, magic, and theatrical variety within an Indonesian setting.

Across these different disciplines, Bernard’s work remains grounded in a common set of principles: ideas should be clear, execution should be disciplined, and the finished product should respect its audience.

Whether the project is a sustainability report, a technical publication, a Broadway production, a novel, a corporate presentation, or a live performance, the underlying challenge is the same: understand what needs to be communicated, determine how best to communicate it, and carry the work from concept to audience.

Today, Bernard continues to work independently across corporate communications, editorial consulting, creative writing, and media production from Jakarta, bringing together decades of experience in both the business of communication and the creative disciplines that give communication its impact.
